Two more patients, both Qatari citizens, recovered from coronavirus (COVID-19) on Saturday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 45 in the country, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has announced.
The last 24 hours also saw 28 more people testing positive for the virus, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 590 in the country.
In a statement, the MoPH said Qatar also saw first coronavirus death on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as a 57-year-old resident from Bangladesh, who was suffering from chronic diseases.
The MoPH said the deceased was admitted to intensive care immediately after he was diagnosed with the disease on March 16 and the necessary medical treatment and care was provided to him upon his admission to the hospital.
“The MoPH extends condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased,” the statement added.
The statement said some new cases of infection are related to travellers who returned to Qatar and others to contacts.
The new infected patients have been put under quarantine where they are receiving the necessary medical care, the MoPH added. (TNN)
