Pakistan said that its borders would remain closed for another two weeks, as the number of people infected with the coronavirus surpassed 1,400, officials said on Saturday.
The country closed its borders with Iran, Afghanistan and India during the past weeks.
They will now stay shut for a further fortnight, Moeed Yusuf, the special assistant to the prime minister on national security told journalists.
Pakistan now has 1,408 cases of the coronavirus. Eleven people have died so far, according to Health Minister Zafar Mirza.
Of those infected, 725 people have been hospitalized. A further 7,180 people are in quarantine in the country, Mirza said.
Earlier that day, eight Chinese doctors landed in Islamabad, bringing medical supplies from China.
The doctors will share their experiences of battling Covid-19 during the next two weeks, said a spokesperson for the foreign minister.
Pakistan’s authorities have suspended domestic and international flights. On Monday, leaders introduced a nationwide lockdown which is being enforced by the police and army.
