The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and Qatari Diar Company on Wednesday opened a new interchange connecting Al Khor Road and Al Ramth Road on Wednesday.
The new junction is the last one on the Al Khor Road project, which is 97 percent complete, and will be fully ready by mid-2020, as cycling and walking tracks and other service roads are still under construction.
The new 2.4-km Al Khor Road interchange, built by Ashghal, is a major link, as it integrates with the new Jo Al Ramth Road constructed by Qatari Diar helping those coming from the heart of Lusail to reach Al Khor Road via the new interchange.
The new interchange is a key feeder connecting Lusail Stadium on one side and Lusail Station on the other side and serving Lusail North via the new road in the east and Rawdhat Al Hamama, Al Kheesa and Wadi Al Banat in the west.
The interchange consists of four bridges, two exit loops, and four exits, along with four underpasses. The interchange will improve traffic in the area, as it provides a free traffic flow to 28,000 vehicles per hour.
The new road extends 2.4 km from the new interchange on the Al Khor Road to the central part of Lusail City, which helps access Lusail City districts namely, Fox Hills, Lusail Plaza, Al Kharaej, Golf District, and the Qetaifan Islands.
The road corridor includes tunnels and underpass with a length of 260 metres along with Walkways and Bike Lanes of 4.2 km as well as a 5-km storm water drainage. This is in addition to artwork along the road for a distance of 850 metres.
Yousef al Emadi, Projects Affairs Director, said Ashghal seeks to provide alternative and unconventional solutions for project management in the face of coronavirus. He said the authority has taken the necessary precautions to confront the virus, especially in the workplace.
