SIX Indonesian students took part in a Spelling Bee competition held by the Phoenix Private School in Doha recently. One of the contestants, Fatih Jauhar (Class 5A), won the competition in the KS2 category.
The other participants were Icha (Class 7B), Nayaka (Class 6A), Harlan (Class 6B), Raja (Class 4B) and Laetitia (Class 3B). Five of the six Indonesian contestants will be competing in the final round of the contest along with 18 other participants in the Year 3 to 6 category to win the championship. Another Indonesian student is competing in the Year 7 to 9 category.
The Spelling Bee competition is annually held by the Phoenix Private School, one of the best international schools in Qatar. The students are required to memorise 200 English words and spell it out later when randomly asked by the teacher.
The event was attended by around 200 people, including almost 170 students, their parents, teachers and the other school staff.
The Ambassador of Indonesia to Qatar HE Muhammad Basri Sidehabi expressed his appreciation for the Indonesian students’ participation in the contest. He remarked: “I always support Indonesians to give their best in work, education, sports and cultural activities. I am glad that the Indonesian students have performed very well in the contest.”
