INDIAN Sports Centre (ISC), an Indian community organisation working under the aegis of the Embassy of India in Qatar, organised various sports activities on the occasion of National Sport Day at Asian Town on Tuesday, wherein around 1,500 Indian expatriates took part.
The events included tug of war and cricket tournament for males and arm wrestling for both males and females.
In the tug of war contest, 12 teams comprising Indian workers took part of which SAK Qatar were declared the winners and Doha Warriors the runners- up.
In the cricket championship, altogether 10 teams participated of which team Khalli Valli Fun Club emerged as winners while Akbar Travels were the runners-up.
Indian Ambassador to Qatar HE P Kumaran also played cricket with ISC officials.
Besides, 30 women participated in arm wrestling. Suja Jayram and Kavita Mohainder were declared the winner and the runner-up respectively.
More than 50 people took part In arm wrestling for men, of whom Meeta and Harris were declared the winner and the runner-up respectively.
Later, Kumaran gave away prizes to the winners. Also present were ISC President Hassan Chougule, ISC Advisory Council Chairman AR Sanaulla, Indian Business & Professional Council (IBPC) President Azim Abbas as well as management committee members of ISC, IBPC, Indian Cultural Centre and Indian Community Benevolent Forum.
Mohd Habibun Nabi, Safeeru, Abdurahiman, Sharaf P Hameed, Arun Kumar, Ashique and Nisha Agarwal also attended the event. The ISC event was supported by Asian Town, Absolute Sports and Care & Cure.
