Former Prime Minister HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani has managed, for more than seven years since assuming the chairmanship of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Interior, to propel Qatar to an enviable state among the comity of nations.
He recorded numerous successes by implementing the vision of the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani to achieve the highest levels of development In all fields.
HE Sheikh Abdullah assiduously led in implementing the country’s national strategies and plans for economic diversification and achieving the pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030 to achieve the good for Qatar and its citizens.
With the announcement of the blockade on Qatar in 2017, the government headed by His Excellency worked to turn the crisis into a new success for the country, as he led the government competently and efficiently to provide the goods and foodstuffs needed by the people from abroad to cushion the impact of the blockade.
At the same time, the government, under his leadership, worked to achieve food and industrial security projects, creating an appropriate investment environment for the private sector by establishing warehouses and logistic areas, and central markets, and accelerating the pace of completion of the 2022 World Cup projects, building roads and bridges, and providing the best levels of health care by launching hospitals that boast the best medical facilities and devices.
An agile and proactive leader, HE Sheikh Abdullah didn’t just rely on the reports sent to him on a regular basis. Rather, he always made surprise or planned field visits to see in person the stages of project completion to ensure the commitment of all ministries and committees to the plans drawn up.
He also worked on transforming Qatar into a digital government by launching Qatar’s strategy to make the government interconnected, integrated, more efficient, effective and easily accessible by all individuals and businesses, to provide more transparent and effective services, and to ensure the user’s ability to complete it electronically.
In the midst of the daily concerns of HE Sheikh Abdullah, he was always listening to the complaints and needs of the citizens and, therefore, made his office open to all who requested to meet him and speak to him. He strived to meet the demands of all citizens.
He represented Qatar in many regional and international conferences, symposiums and meetings, including those related to the preparation of the draft security agreements to combat terrorism, the International Conference on Public Security and Terrorism in New York, the Protection and Preventive Security Programme in New York, and chaired the National Counter-Terrorism Committee in addition to chairing the committee to organise the 2022 World Cup.
During his tenure in office, the Ministry of the Interior recorded many accomplishments until it became an example in the development and keeping pace with the technology of the times.
HE Sheikh Abdullah worked for Qatar to achieve the highest standards of security and safety and reduce rates of major crimes, which made Qatar one of the safest countries in the world according to international reports and indicators.
In facilitating services for citizens and residents, the ministry has adopted the e-government strategy and the former prime minister supervised its implementation, which has enabled everyone to obtain government services via mobile phone through the services of Metrash.
HE Sheikh Abdullah also supervised the government linking plans between ministries and institutions.
In the field of food security, the National Food Security Strategy was launched. The strategy is based on four axes, namely international trade, the local market, local production and strategic storage.
Through the tireless work of His Excellency and his personal follow-up and good guidance, several projects that contributed to enhancing local food production were launched under his watch, in addition to offering many investment projects, facilities and support to the private sector, especially in the field of agricultural production, where the proportion of local production increased to 300 percent within a short period.
