A state-of-the-art edutainment facility, promoting public awareness of climate change and the community’s social responsibility in this regard, as well as the importance of recycling, was unveiled on the premises of Elite Paper Recycling (EPR) in New Industrial Area on Monday.
Called Eco Dome, the facility depicts images of forested and deforested lands aimed at sending powerful messages on the crucial importance of environment care. It is open to public visit, especially for school and university students.
The dome was inaugurated by noted businessman Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al Thani, as the patron, together with EPR Chairman Abdullah al Suwaidi before a number of dignitaries.
In his remarks on the occasion, Sheikh Faisal lauded the initiative of young Qatari entrepreneur Suwaidi and his contributions to environment care in the country.
He said, “It is truly my pleasure to witness the opening of the Eco Dome, which Elite for Paper Recycling has established. Such initiatives should increase awareness about the importance of maintaining a sustainable and healthy environment, and preventing desertification, for us and for the safety of the future generations. As directed by His Highness the Amir, and as a part of the Qatar National Vision 2030, which considers environmental development one of its most important pillars, Qatar is seeking to achieve balance and synergy between economic and social development, and preserving the environment.”
Similarly, Suwaidi stressed the realisation of his vision of contributing to the developments in Qatar by establishing EPR, which is the pioneering recycling facility in the country.
“We have over 100 trucks circulating all over Qatar with over 2000 dumpsters deployed. We are collecting over 3500 tonnes of waste paper. EPR collects waste paper free of charge from homes, governments, companies, NGOs, embassies, schools and universities. Today, we have over 250 schools and universities partnering with us. What makes EPR unique is its awareness programmes on fighting climate change and how recycling is one of the major solutions. Today, I am very happy to launch our mega edutainment public awareness event, the Eco Dome. It is an educational and entertaining tool to raise the awareness of the public on the impact of climate change and how we can fight and stop it through recycling waste papers”, he said.
EPR Public Relations Director Maryam al Sayed added that the Eco Dome will allow visitors from schools and the public to fully experience the edutainment project and also educate them on paper recycling process.
The event was sponsored and supported by Ooredoo, Qatar Post, Aamal, Ministry of Education, FMM, Talabat, Isuzu Jaidah and Al Waad Packaging & Manufacturing Company. Honorary partners included embassies of Sweden, Italy, Tanzania, Ecuador, Argentina, Moldova and Uruguay; UNESCO and Gas Exporting Countries Forum.
