Qatari boxer Sheikh Fahad bin Khalid bin Jassim al Thani announced that he will participate in the upcoming Middle East Professional Boxing Championship, which the World Boxing Council (WBC) has created in its agenda to promote the sport in the region.
Only professional boxers can compete in the Middle East championship, which are considered the latest boxing events in the region with boxers having eight rounds of three minutes each.
Sheikh Fahad described his participation in this championship as “immensely significant”, particularly because it is considered his first step towards international recognition in major championships under the umbrella of the apex professional boxing body.
Participating in this championship will be parallel to Sheikh Fahad’s schedule in the Spanish professional boxing, as he is currently seeking new dates to avoid clash of fixtures in the two events, he said in a press statement.
Sheikh Fahad stressed that participating in the Middle East Championship was hard for him to ignore since he will be one of the very few Arab boxers participating in this championship.
