AS many as 50 Best Buddies Qatar members of Rehabilitation and Vocational programme recently participated in the ‘Farm Your Country’ project, an initiative by Al-Faisal Without Borders Foundation, implemented in cooperation with the Public Parks Department of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE).
Abdullatif al Yafai, general manager of Al-Faisal without Borders Foundation said, “We are proud to work alongside Best Buddies Qatar to implement new ways to develop skills of persons with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities, and to empower and integrate them in the community. We affirm our commitment to present various environmentally friendly initiatives and adopt a sustainability system.”
‘Farm Your Country’ programme aims to promote agriculture and preserve environment in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
Al-Faisal without Borders Foundation has joined hands with MME’s Public Parks Department and the MoEHE to educate people about the importance of growing and producing healthy food and taking care of plants using the simplest tools and fertilisers in natural environment.
Laalei Abu Alfain, executive director of Best Buddies Qatar, expressed her gratitude to Al-Faisal Without Borders Foundation, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education for implementing ‘Farm Your Country’ programme and engaging Best Buddies Qatar members in it to educate them and develop their social skills.
She added, “The achievement of sustainable development is a responsibility of all entities and they must engage differently-abled persons in their programmes in order to enhance their understanding of the role of green spaces in providing clean and healthy environment and to raise their awareness of the importance of agriculture in our lives.”
