Beirut: Anti-government demonstrators clashed with police near the parliament building in central Beirut on Wednesday, witnesses said.
The protesters hurled stones at the anti-riot police, who responded with water cannon to disperse them, the witnesses added.
“Hassan Diab go home. We don’t want you or your government!”  protesters chanted, expressing disapproval at his government’s line-up.
Some demonstrators tried to climb the barbed wire closing a road leading to parliament. Others threw garbage bags at police deployed in the area.  No casualties were reported.
Earlier Wednesday, protesters blocked roads in the city’s north and east, as well as at entrances to the city.
