Manila: Stubborn residents near an erupting volcano in the Philippines were given 24 hours from Wednesday to leave their homes in high-risk areas.
Authorities warned that those who ignore evacuation advice should not expect help from authorities if they get caught up in a hazardous explosive eruption.
More than 235,000 people have fled their homes around the Taal Volcano in Batangas province, 66 kilometres south of Manila, since January 12 when the mountain located in the middle of a lake began ejecting ash, steam and lava fountains. (DPA)
