Kerala expatriate forum Qatar Kerala Volunteers celebrated the International Volunteer Day (IVD) at Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakra, recently.
The International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development (December 5), more commonly referred to as International Volunteer Day (IVD), is an international observance mandated by the UN General Assembly.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, Junaid Ayanikunnath, office-bearer of the group, said, “We have volunteered at many local and international events including the Gulf Cup. We offer a platform for young and dynamic expatriate youth to serve and support international events in Qatar.”
The forum currently has more than 200 members.
The International Volunteer Day is celebrated by many non-governmental organisations, civil society, and the private sector, among others. It is also marked and supported by the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme.
Volunteering provides opportunities for people, particularly those often excluded, to concretely impact their own lives and play a constructive role in their communities by volunteering their time and skills. Through volunteerism, communities around the world often experience strengthened solidarity and inclusion. (SC)
