QVC rallied superbly and defeated Gulf Lights by three wickets to win the Second Division title at the third Gulf Lights Cricket tournament 2019 at the Losail Cricket Complex.
Gulf Lights, who chose to bat first, put up a fighting 143 for eight in 20 overs, riding a strong start of 81 for no loss in 10 overs. Openers Niyamat (23 runs) and Hussain (25 runs) hit the ball hard and clear before returning unbeaten after facing stipulated deliveries. No. 3 batsman Arhshad continued the good work and smashed 28 runs.
Later, QVC applied some brakes on the innings through Mehtab, Rameez, Fauzan and Haleem. Rameez removed three players, Fauzan and Haleem shared four. Zahir and Metab were economical and gave away only 25 runs in their six overs.
QVC launched the chase well and collected 44 runs in first six overs with Anam (20 runs) and Samir (28 runs) batting well. Their innings lost some momentum when Faisal, Rameez , Zahir, Kazi and Sanjay were dismissed in quick succession, leaving them with reeling at 88 runs for seven in 14 overs.
However, Fouzan (36 runs with 3 sixes and 2 fours), Tabish (13 runs) and Haleem (14 runs) turned the pressure back on Gulf Lights with superb hitting. Their knocks enabled QVC to overhaul the target in 18.4 overs. Zoheb and Murshid bagged two scalps each.
Seema Mubin, Technical Director of Gulf Lights, was the chief guest at the closing ceremony, while Dr. Mubin of PHCC was the Guest of Honour. They presented the trophies, prizes and cash awards.
Fauzan of QVC was declared the man of the final for his all-round performance.
