MORE than 70 secondary school teachers in Qatar graduated recently from a 10-part robotics training course organised and hosted by College of the North Atlantic-Qatar (CNA-Q).
The training takes place in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, which has been instrumental in ensuring teachers take part in robotics training, to encourage students’ interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) in the nation’s classrooms.
The free training sessions are provided in both English and Arabic in the evenings. Since CNA-Q started hosting the robotics teacher-training programme, hundreds of teachers from across Qatar have been trained to bring applied STEM education into their classrooms.
Teachers are given up to 30 hours of instruction in robotics programming at CNA-Q. These teachers then bring their training back into the classroom to teach students how to build and programme robots. The training was developed so that students can advance their STEM skills, while developing other 21st century skills such as teamwork and innovation.
