Speaker of Shura Council HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al Mahmoud on Monday expressed satisfaction over the appreciation that African parliamentarians expressed for Qatar and the role of Shura Council in enhancing parliamentary ties with African countries.
At the conclusion of Shura Council’s regular weekly meeting, the speaker informed the members of his participation along with an accompanying delegation at the 42nd Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of the African Parliamentary Union (APU) in Djibouti recently.
He also informed the members about the council obtaining an observer membership of the APU. Qatar is the first non-African country to obtain membership after the union amended its charter to allow members from outside the continent.
He also discussed with the members the meeting he had with a delegation from the US Congress which discussed developing ties between the council and the US Congress.
Meanwhile, the Public Services and Utilities Committee of the Shura Council held a meeting under the chairmanship of its Rapporteur HE Mohammed bin Mahdi al Ahbabi. At the meeting, the committee considered a draft law regulating medical treatment abroad and decided to complete its study at its next meeting.
