Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), in cooperation with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), has opened online application for medical scholarships for the academic year 2020-2021.
Under the Amiri Medical Scholarship Programme, 10 scholarships will be granted to Palestinian physicians from Gaza and West Bank. After four to five years of residency training in Qatar, the graduates will receive the Arab Board of Health Specializations (ABHS) certification from the HMC.
The available medical specialisations are as follows:
West Bank: internal medicine (major: infectious diseases), internal medicine (major: nephrology), internal medicine (major: MICU), internal medicine (major: rheumatology) and cardiothoracic surgery.
Gaza: orthopaedics (major: spinal surgery), anaesthetics & intensive care (major: regional anaesthesia), internal medicine (major: geriatrics), obstetrics & gynaecology (major: maternal medicine), and general surgery (major: hepatobiliary surgery).
The selected applicants are bound to return to work in Palestinian health facilities for at least double the duration of the scholarship.
The selection process meets the standard selection procedures adopted by the HMC.
Applicants can preferably be fresh graduates or having experience in the specific specialisation applied for.
Dr Haitham al Hassan, member of the programme’s consultative committee in Palestine, visited Doha to hold preparatory meetings with the physicians and departments of the HMC concerned. He also checked the in-progress medical trainees. As Director of the Al-Makassed Hospital in Al-Quds, Dr Hassan discussed the development of the hospital with the top management of QRCS, which has been operating the hospital for many years.
