ABDULLAH Abdulghani & Bros. Co. W.L.L. (AAB), the exclusive distributors of Toyota and Lexus in Qatar, recently concluded the AAB Open Invitational Volleyball Tournament 2019 as part of their CSR initiative to promote community sports. The event was held in collaboration with LIGA OFW and FIVBA, two Filipino community organisations holding annual volleyball tournaments where players from various communities participate.
Altogether 24 teams of men and women from different categories joined the tournament that lasted for five weeks and was held every Friday.
There were eight teams in the finals of which four were declared champions. Team Avanza Dhemet beat Team Land Cruiser Riders for the Men’s Rated Division while Team Prius stepped up to win against ASD Dragons Junior Varsity for the Men’s Non-Rated Division. On the other hand, Team Rav-4 Hybrid Rascals A won over Team Avalon Lady Magnum for the Women’s Non-Rated Division while Team Rav 4 Rascals B rose as victors over Team Coaster Sugar N Spike.
The closing ceremony was held recently at the American School Doha, the venue partner. A cash prize of QR2,500 and trophies were awarded to each of the 4 champion teams. The awards were presented to the teams by Rassa Ramli, Corporate Communication and CSR manager of AAB and David Farmer, Tournament director and athletic director of American School Doha.
Marc Flores, technical head and Liga OFW lead, and Elvis (Koko) Beredo, FIVBA Doha lead, attended the award ceremony.
AAB engages itself in this tournament due to the core mission of the collaboration which is the league’s commitment to support distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Qatar.
AAB believes that community sport is a way of creating a culture of values. Its corporate values of fairness, integrity, respect, superior performance and teamwork are relevant in the promotion of an active and healthy community.
