Eight students and an instructor from the renowned university attended a series of talks and lectures delivered by CHSS faculty. These included ‘Middle East Politics, Society and Economy’, which considered the changing social, economic and political dynamics of Qatar and the wider Middle East over the past two decades. The week-long course comprised lectures, fieldwork and visits to Qatari government agencies, historical sites and other universities. The course provided the participants with a basic overview of Islam and Muslim societies, and deeper knowledge of the region’s geopolitical outlook. The visit also provided a perfect opportunity to discuss further exchange activities between CHSS and Shanghai University. These include sending a delegation from CHSS to China to take part in similar activities and study programmes. Speaking after the visit, Prof Hassan Hakimian, director of Middle Eastern Studies Department at CHSS, said: “This exchange not only reflects our commitment to enhancing transformative educational experiences, but also Qatar’s ongoing determination to extend ties with China and other East Asian states. Both efforts require a deep understanding of the Middle East’s cultural and historical contexts, as well as the contemporary geopolitical context in which we operate. We’re pleased that our activities contributed to these critical insights for our visitors from Shanghai University.” Pages 1234567 RELATED ARTICLES British Council announces 9 finalists for Study UK Alumni Awards 2019-20 Nov 26, 2019 0 1305 GU-Q’s Ambassador in Residence Dr Kuwari to give public talk tomorrow Nov 26, 2019 0 296 Rami Khouri helps hone writing skills of NU-Q faculty, students Nov 26, 2019 0 375 Over 200 scholars attend Hamad Bin Khalifa Symposium on Islamic Art at VCUarts Qatar Tribune News Network Doha One of the world’s most prestigious events on the Islamic art and architecture calendar, the 8th Biennial Hamad bin Khalifa Symposium on Islamic Art, was recently held at Virginia Commonwealth ..
