In line with the India Qatar Year of Culture 2019, the Embassy of India in Doha and the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) will organise an Indian community festival titled ‘Passage to India’. The three-day event, which will be held at the Museum of Islamic Park in Doha, commences on December 12. A month-long ‘India Market’ will be followed by the festival.
Deputy Director Learning and Outreach, Salem Abdulla Al Aswad, said this will the first-of-its-kind event and will provide an opportunity to appreciate the long-time Indian residents of Qatar who have contributed to the country’s growth.
First Secretary (Culture & Education) at the Embassy of India, Hemant Kumar, said the festival would feature colourful programmes from Qatar and different states of India. There will also be display of life-size monuments of India like Al Zubara Fort, Taj Mahal and Red Fort, and pavilions will be showcasing various customs. Food outlets by licensed Indian vendors will provide various delicacies from different states of India.
Manikantan said that in the previous years, the festival has attracted a large number of people and more than 10,000 visitors are expected each day this time.
A meeting in this regard was attended by Head of Academic Programs for Museum of Islamic Art Sarah Tose, General Secretary Seenu Pillai and Cultural Coordinator of ICC Nirmala Shanmuga Pandian. The event is supported by Seashore group.
