on Thursday.
With the participation of all the eight teams – Iraq, Yemen, Kuwait, Oman, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and hosts Qatar – the draw will now be divided into two groups of four teams each.
AGCFF also confirmed new dates for the Qatar 2019 edition after the late addition of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE, informed Jassim al Shukali, Vice-President of the AGCFF and Jassim al Rumaihi, General Secretary of the federation, while addressing the media in Doha
on Wednesday.
The tournament which had originally been slated to start on November 24, will now be played from November 26th to December 8.
The change in dates is also due to the participation of Saudi Arabia club Al Hilal in the AFC Champions League second-leg final against Japan’s Urawa Reds on November 24.
Some of Saudi Arabia’s national team players would be representing Al Hilal.
“It is a pleasure to announce the participation of Saudi Arabia, UAE and Bahrain in the Gulf Cup. The decision was taken after the acceptance of our request and we value their participation,” Shukali said.
AGCFF officials also said that changes to the already scheduled venue (Khalifa International Stadium) will be announced soon.
Tickets are currently available at, Souq Waqif, Villagio Mall, Doha Festival City, Mall of Qatar and Katara. Tickets can also be purchased on the official website gulfcup2019.qa.
General Secretary of AGCFF, Rumaihi added that the fans of all participating countries including of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE are welcome in Qatar.
“We have no complications on allowing the fans to come. Our doors have been open since the blockade and if there are anything more required to ease the process, I’m sure the authorities will make it easier for the fans to come,” Rumaihi said.
The Arabian Gulf Cup, which was first held in 1970, has been won a record 10 times by Kuwait. Oman are the reigning champions with their second title, after beating the UAE in the last edition held in Kuwait in 2018.
Qatar have won the competition three times – the latest being in 2014 when they beat hosts Saudi Arabia 2-1 in the final.Qatar Football Association (QFA) and Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF) President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al Thani, and other officials during a meeting of the AGCFF in Doha on Wednesday.
