The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) has cracked down on 19 retail outlets for violating the regulations for promotional offers. The violations were detected during its inspection campaign carried out between August 1 and October 9, 2019.
The violations ranged from failure to display the prices of goods before and after discounts and mentioning prices clearly, to putting out misleading advertisements. It also included the announcement of a 70 percent discount without obtaining the prior approval of the concerned department.
The inspection campaign targeted retail outlets that have obtained licences for discounts and promotional offers, in order to monitor the compliance of suppliers (outlets) with their obligations under the Minister of Commerce and Industry’s decision No (312) of 2018, which regulates the sale of goods and services through advertising, prize draws or awards.
