Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani inaugurated the 13th session of the General Assembly of the Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI) at the Doha Sheraton Hotel on Tuesday.
The opening ceremony was attended by a number of heads of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) from Arab countries, representatives of regulatory organisations and guests.
The President of the State Audit Bureau Sheikh Bandar bin Mohamed bin Saud al Thani in his speech on the occasion said that the bureau has adopted a consistent reform and development approach in line with Qatari policy under the leadership of the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani.
He pointed out that this approach included the institutional and professional aspects of the bureau’s work and led in a short period to enhancing its status within the institutional fabric of the State as an independent body committed to ensure protection of public funds and strengthen the pillar of good governance.
Sheikh Bandar said that when the bureau assumes the presidency of the ARABOSAI for the next three years, it intends to adopt projects and development initiatives that contribute to consolidate the gains achieved by the organisation, adding that he is counting on the support of the heads of the SAIs members.
He added further that the convening of the General Assembly of ARABOSAI is the culmination of the progress of its activity during the past three years and an occasion to identify the achievements made for the benefit of the SAIs members in areas related to capacity-building. “It’s also an opportunity to adopt programmes that will improve the performance of the organisation and the services it provides, he pointed out.
He pointed out that the increasing international interest in the importance of the role played by SAIs in promoting accountability, transparency and integrity, protecting public funds, establishing trust in public institutions, the rule of law and achieving sustainable development goals stems from the pivotal position of these bodies within the institutional fabric of states, and, in turn, places significant responsibilities on them to meet the expectations of the relevant parties, including the higher authorities, regulated bodies, the media and the public.
Sheikh Bandar exuded confidence that the 13th session of ARABOSAI will reach resolutions and recommendations that contribute to enhancing the capacities and performance of the SAIs and strengthen their position as role models.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani also met a number of heads of delegations attending the 13th General Assembly ARABOSAI at the Sheraton Doha Hotel.
The meeting reviewed a number of topics related to the financial and accounting fields as well as key issues on the agenda of the session.
