A high-profile delegation from Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has attended the 15th Meeting of the Chiefs of Red Crescent Societies and Associations of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC).
Held under the supervision of the GCC Secretariat-General, the two-day meeting was hosted by Oman Charitable Organisation (OCO) in Muscat, Oman.
QRCS was represented by its Secretary-General, Ali bin Hassan al Hammadi, and Head of International Relations, Dr. Fawzi Oussedik. The meeting discussed the local, regional, and international strategies of GCC Red Crescent organisations in relation to joint humanitarian and relief work.
Many issues were featured on the agenda, notably the five-year action plan of GCC Red Crescent Organisations (2020-2024), a multifaceted roadmap for joint humanitarian efforts, to ensure maximum cooperation in the ongoing relief operations.
The participants emphasised the importance of continuing to pursue unified and closely coordinated positions at all levels.
They agreed to support the nomination of Dr. Hilal Musaed al Sayer, President of Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS), as member of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in December elections.
This is in recognition of his outstanding contributions to humanitarian action regionally and worldwide.
The meeting approved 10 agenda items referred from preliminary committees on mutual cooperation, activities of the GCC Red Crescent Day under the theme of “Giving as One”, the Permanent Volunteering Committee, GCC Volunteering Awards, promotion of humanitarianism in educational curricula, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the GCC Secretariat-General and the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organisation (ARCO), and the relief and ambulatory services.
