Representatives of governments participating in the governing body of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Geneva have acknowledged Qatar as a model for the region in light of significant development in labour laws.
The 337th session of the Governing Body of ILO reviewed the legislation and procedures carried out by Qatar in the labour market.
Qatar’s delegation to the meeting was headed by Minister of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs HE Yousef bin Mohammed al Othman Fakhro.
Fakhro highlighted the legislation and the developments achieved by Qatar in accordance with the strategic objectives of its National Vision 2030.
He underlined the keenness of Qatar on creating a safe, investment-stimulating and balanced working environment for the benefit of the Qatari labour market and the three production parties, stressing that Qatar will continue cooperation and partnerships with friendly countries and international trade unions.
Meanwhile, Qatari employers reviewed the procedures and laws issued by Qatar within the framework of improving working conditions of expatriate labour in the country.
Employer Representative, Former Board Member of Qatar Chamber, Nasser al Meer, said the UN meetings, which witnessed the discussion of the report on Qatar and the procedures and laws issued by the state, saw a number of ILO board members from governments and employers praising procedures, laws and legislation issued by Qatar in this regard.
Meer pointed out the employer representatives of the participating countries appreciated the role of Qatar Chamber in cooperating with the Qatari government regarding the new laws and legislations aimed at developing the labour market.
He said that the Qatari employers agreed with the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs and the Office of the International Labor Organization in Qatar to hold awareness seminars on laws and legislations relating to labour and workers, in cooperation with Qatar Chamber.
