Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia met with Minister of Transport and Communications HE Jassim bin Saif al Sulaiti in Tbilisi on Tuesday as the minister led Qatar’s delegation to Georgia to participate in the Tbilisi Belt and Road Forum (Silk Road).
The meeting reviewed bilateral relations between the two countries in the fields of transportation, mobility and communications, and the means of enhancing them, in addition to discussing a number of topics of mutual interest.
The minister delivered an invitation from Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani to Georgia’s PM to attend the Qatar IT Conference and Exhibition ( QITCOM 2019), which will run in Doha from October 29 to November 1.
The Tbilisi Belt and Road Forum was inaugurated on Tuesday by Georgia Prime Minister of Giorgi Gakharia under the theme ‘Partnership for Global Impact’.
The forum saw attendance of over 2,000 participants from 60 countries, including heads of states, ministers, diplomats and representatives of international and business organisations.
In his opening speech, Gakharia stressed the importance of the new Silk Road in modern economic integration and globalisation.
Georgia was one of the first countries applauding the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) to create new trade corridors between Europe and Asia and improve existing ones, he said.
