Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi released an outline of what she termed President Donald Trump’s “shakedown” of Ukrainian leaders for his own personal gain as the Democrats pursue an impeachment inquiry of Trump.
The four-page document, which outlines the opposition lawmakers’ case against the president, comes ahead of a week of closed-door depositions from Trump administration officials as the Democrats continue the impeachment probe.
The outline does not release new information but highlights the line of attack against the president.
The inquiry is looking into a possible effort by Trump to withhold military aid to pressure Ukraine into investigating Joe Biden, a Democratic candidate vying to unseat Trump in the 2020 election.
Trump also wanted Ukraine to investigate a debunked right-wing conspiracy theory about the 2016 election.
Pelosi’s outline says Trump “betrayed his oath of office by using the US government and outside actors to advance his scheme to shake down the Ukrainian government to interfere in the 2020 elections.”  The outline cites text messages between Taylor, US ambassador to the EU Gordan Sondland and former US envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker.
Meanwhile, Republicans are moving to censure congressman Adam Schiff, a leader of impeachment probe, accusing him of lying to the public.
