A delegation from the French Senate’s Friendship Group with Gulf States was briefed on the experience and competences of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) and its role in protecting and promoting human rights, especially those of children, women and workers.
This came during the reception of a delegation from the French Senate’s Friendship Group with Gulf States at NHRC headquarters on Monday.
The delegation met with Vice-Chairman of the Committee Dr Mohamed bin Saifal Kuwarias well as heads of different departments and legal experts.
An introductory presentation was made on NHRC and its role in protecting and promoting human rights, especially those of children, women and workers.
The NHRC officials highlighted that the committee has a 5-year strategic plan that includes organising lectures and programmes in different places targeting workers and employers.
The plan also includes establishment of community offices within the committee and a 24-hour hotline to address complaints.
The officials mentioned the role played by the Reception and Registration sections of the Department of Legal Affairs, which provides free legal advice, in addition to receiving complaints and petitions.
The committee officials said that the NHRC also distributes brochures and a manual pocket book available in 10 languages for workers, which contains simplified rights and duties of workers in vital institutions as part of its awareness drive.
