(Continued from Page 1) THE first phase of Ashghal’s beautification project covers several streets in north of Doha such as Legtaifiya, Buhaira, Onaiza and Al Markhiya and parts of Al Waab Street. The beautification of streets such as Al Khafji, Al Jamiaa and Arab League are also underway. To date, 76 kilometres of pedestrian and cycle paths have been completed, including a 3.5 km path linking the Al Wakra Metro Station with the Al Janoub Stadium. The path is split into a 5-metre asphalt strip for pedestrians and a 3-metre blue strip for cyclists. It runs alongside the road connecting the station and the stadium in each direction. Other works such as landscaping, planting of tree saplings, setting up kiosks and installing street furniture and lighting are still ongoing. Phase one is scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of 2020. The Committee has signed QR700 million contracts with five firms to implement some projects. The Supervisory Committee has also set up a Technical Committee for Artwork to provide opportunity for all local artists to participate and make technical proposals that match the nature of the proposed sites. It aims to revive Qatari architectural elements on some internal roads and vital places, which will contribute to emphasising Qatar’s historical and cultural legacy. The technical committee will also play a role in informing and educating the public about the importance of artworks in the city and providing the opportunity to receive different and creative art ideas.
