High-protein chocolate bars that are not imported by an authorised dealer in Qatar may not be halal, the Ministry of Public Health said in a statement on Monday.
The statement comes in response to questions raised on social media about such products meeting the halal requirements.
The ministry clarified that high-protein chocolate bars such as Mars, Bounty, Snickers and Milky Way ordered through internet or brought in by an unauthorised dealer might differ in composition from the same brands available in the domestic market. Those available outside Qatar might contain protein from a non-halal source. The ministry called on those following the halal principles to not buy such products through the internet or through personal sources.
As part of precaution, the ministry has also directed its inspectors to ensure that the markets are free from such items. It has also ordered the ports in the country to not allow their entry even if they are in non-commercial quantities.
