‘The Majlis – Cultures in Dialogue’ global tour reaches Weltmuseum Wien in Vienna Sep 18, 2019 0 476 12345 Tribune News NetworkDoha‘The Majlis – Cultures in Dialogue’ exhibition was opened at Weltmuseum Wien in Vienna on Monday as part of the fourth phase of the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum’s (FBQ Museum) tour around the world.The exhibition was inaugurated by Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim bin Faisal al Thani, chairman of the Board of Trustees, FBQ Museum; Director of Weltmuseum Wien Dr Christian Schicklgruber; Dr Sabine Haag, general director of the Kunsthistorisches Museum; and Kees Wieringa, FBQ Museum’s director.Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sabine Haag introduced the idea of ‘The Majlis – Cultures in Dialogue’ and the purpose of holding such an interactive exhibition with the public, highlighting the importance of cultural dialogue among nations.The Director of Weltmuseum Wien Dr Christian Schicklgruber thanked Sheikh Faisal for selecting the museum as a platform for holding the exhibition.Kees Wieringa spoke about the importance of the exhibition, as well as the partnership between the FBQ Museum, the UNESCO Office in Doha and Shell, the official sponsor of the tour.Speaking on the occasion, Sheikh Faisal said that his passion for collecting artefacts dated back to his young days when he visited the famous museums of Europe with his father.Talking about ‘The Majlis – Cultures in Dialogue’ exhibition, he said that it would enable visitors from different countries to learn about Qatar and its inherently tolerant culture and religion that calls for dialogue and convergence. Sheikh Faisal added that the objective behind holding the exhibition on a foreign soil is also to spread the message of peace.The exhibition seeks to recreate the atmosphere of the Arab Majlis, a community gathering, for engaging in cultural dialogue.
