THE Ambassador of Afghanistan to the State of Qatar HE Abdul Hakim Dalili hosted a gala dinner at Hotel Sheraton Grand and Resort on Sunday, commemorating the 100th National Day of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
Present on the occasion were Minister of Justice and Minister of State for the Council of Ministers Affairs HE Dr Issa bin Saad al Jafali al Nuaimi; Minister of Municipality and Environment HE Abdulla bin Abdulaziz bin Turkial Subaie; HE Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah al Thani, Ambassador HE Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro, director, Department of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Qatar; Ambassador HE Ali Ibrahim Ahmed, dean of the Diplomatic Corps; diplomats, dignitaries and Afghan community members.
The Afghan envoy praised and paid his gratitude to the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani and the people of Qatar for the financial support to Afghanistan in key areas like economy, education, health, drinking water facilities, etc.
He also praised the formation of Afghanistan Fund by the government of Qatar. The ambassador especially thanked the Qatar Red Crescent Society and Gharafa Foundation for their humanitarian services in Afghanistan.
He said that around 3,200 Afghan Loya Jirga Council members proposed a road map in March 2019, for unconditional talks with Taliban to achieve lasting peace in the country. The ambassador said that Afghanistan kept the doors open for all who wanted to engage in the peace process.
He said that the Afghan government commended the sincere efforts made by the government of Qatar and the international community to achieve lasting and comprehensive peace in Afghanistan. The Afghan government was committed to holding presidential elections on September 28 to meet the aspirations of its people, Dalili said.
Bilateral ties between Qatar and Afghanistan continue to be very strong with multiple agreements signed between the two countries, he said, adding that three more agreements were expected in the near future.
The ambassador also extended his gratitude to Qatar for hosting the peace talks and its hospitality towards the Afghan community. He said some 5,000 Afghan citizens are serving in various sectors in Qatar for the past four decades.
