Qatar’s construction sector is well-positioned for growth in years to come, dmg events President Matt Denton has said.
“Despite potential headwinds stemming from the regional crisis, the outlook for Qatar’s construction market remains bright,” Denton told Qatar Tribune.
There are numerous large-scale infrastructure projects underway in preparation of the FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar and to achieve the goals of the 2030 Qatar National Vision, he said.
While a numbers of projects are on the verge of completion, Denton said, Qatar is still spending tens of billions of dollars on sporting, transport, and tourist infrastructure to ensure the country is ready in time for massive influx of players, officials and supporters during the mega sporting event event.
Besides stadiums and other non-residential construction, he said, Qatar is also making significant investment in the expansion of the country’s road and rail network, as well as other infrastructure capacity.
“Qatar is matured developing country. Like any other matured developing country, Qatar will continue to witnesses a lot of infrastructure projects in the future,” he said.
Denton said that Qatar has also emerged as a big renovation and redevelopment market.
“Lots of renovations and redevelopment plans are going on in Qatar. This is such a huge market, which requires knowledge and expertise. A lot of foreign firms are vying for such projects in Qatar. This is one area that will give another fillip to construction sector in the country,” he said.
Comparing Qatar’s construction market with countries in the region, he said, “Every market is very, very different. While there is a big slowdown in the region’s construction sector, a lot of construction works supported by the government are going on in Qatar. These government-led projects and initiatives make Qatar different from other countries in the region. Qatar also has lots of big traditional family groups that are into construction sector. All these factors make Qatar’s construction sector well-positioned for growth.”
Denton, who will be at the helm of organising the upcoming The Big 5 Construct Qatar, said the public spending is likely to remain a critical industry growth driver in the coming years.
“Private projects will also play a much more prominent role in expansion of the industry in the coming years,” he said.
