A group of African community leaders recently gathered as a preparatory meet for the African Community Leaders Forum on Workers’ Welfare, which is scheduled on October 8.
Leaders and representatives from nine African national communities are expected to participate in the forum.
The programme is being organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Administrative Development Labour and Social Affairs in cooperation with global unions Building and Wood Worker’s International (BWI), International Transport Workers Federation (ITF), UNI Global Union and International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).
The forum is a platform for dialogue between the ministry and representatives of various national communities in Qatar.
Similar forums were held in the past with community leaders from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and the Philippines.
The forum on October 8 is being held especially for African communities in Qatar.
The event will provide an opportunity for representatives to obtain updates and provide inputs on labor reforms that Qatar is implementing. Workers’ issues and concerns are also likely to be discussed directly with officials of the Labour Ministry.
The Project Office for Qatar of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) is supporting this initiative.
