THE third edition of Katara International Hunting and Falcons Exhibition ‘S’hail 2019’ opened at the Katara Hall and the Wisdom Square on Tuesday putting a spotlight on the art of falconry, the favourite sport in the Arabian Peninsula, as well as the thrill of hunting and trekking activities.
The largest-of-its-kind event in the Middle East, the expo features more than 140 pavilions showcasing major local and international companies specialising in hunting and falconry supplies. The represented countries are Qatar, Kuwait, Pakistan, Kenya, Italy, Russia, Britain, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Romania, South Africa, Lebanon, the USA, Sweden, Netherlands, Turkey, Iran, Portugal and Spain.
The finest, most polished and beautiful falcons were put on public display for different activities aimed at celebrating an important part of Qatar’s culture and tradition. Similarly, the venue was bustling with activities as hunting enthusiasts and other hobbyists gathered to view a rich showcase of other hunting gears including weapons, accessories and vehicles.
Commenting on the occasion, Katara General Manager and chairman of the organising committee of S’hail 2019 Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al Sulaiti praised the good turnout of visitors on the opening day of the exhibition as well as lauded the growing international participation in the event.
He also stressed that S’hail exhibition has become a global meeting place for those interested in the heritage of hunting and falconry and has achieved a reputation echoing in different countries of the world because of its rapid growth and successive successes since its launch in 2017.
Among the highlights of the exhibition are the auctions. The first is done in an electronic way which is featured in a large platform located at the centre of the venue and takes place daily from 9am to 10pm. About 18 falcons are put on display for this activity where guests can participate through a special code. The names of the winners of the auction will be published on the last day of the exhibition. The other type of auction displays the most luxurious and rarest breeds.
The event, running until September 7, is also participated by ministries and other government institutions such as the Ministry of Interior; Ministry of Municipality and Environment represented by the Department of Reserves & Department of Livestock and Wildlife; General Customs Authority, Qatar Sniper Association; Al-Qalayel Championship’; Qatar Shooting Federation and Souq Waqif Falcon Hospital.
It is sponsored by Social and Sports Activities Support Fund, Ooredoo (official telecommunications sponsor), Qatar Insurance (official insurance sponsor) and Qatar Airways (exclusive carrier).
