Qatar took part in the meeting of the Political Directors of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, which was held at the French Foreign Ministry headquarters in Paris. The delegation of Qatar was chaired by Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Counterterrorism and Mediation in Conflict Resolution HE Ambassador Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed al Qahtani.
In his speech at the meeting, ambassador al Qahtani stressed the importance of conflict prevention and the need to use means of diplomatic prevention and good offices and mediation in dealing with conflicts, which he considers to be one of the most serious and root causes of terrorism and extremism. He noted the existence of terrorist groups in areas of wars, conflicts and political tensions, especially in Yemen, Somalia, Libya and Afghanistan.
The ambassador underlined that Qatar is making strong efforts in this regard through its good offices in Afghanistan, the ongoing negotiations in Doha between the United States and Taliban, and said the fight against terrorism is a key element in these negotiations.
Meanwhile, Qahtani said that absence of a peaceful solution in Sudan would lead to the deterioration of the situation which in turn brings in terrorism and extremism to the country. He referred in this context to the strenuous efforts exerted by the State of Qatar to establish peace in Sudan in general, and in Darfur region in particular.
