Qatar Charity (QC), in cooperation with Aster Volunteers, an organisation affiliated to the Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF) under the aegis of the Embassy of India in Qatar, held a blood donation drive to mark World Blood Donor Day recently.
The event, which was supported by the Blood Donation Unit of Hamad Medical Corporation, was organised at Qatar Charity’s headquarters for a whole day, during which many people from different nationalities donated blood.
The drive comes as part of the efforts made by Qatar Charity to serve the local community, with the aim of building a culture of voluntary blood donation and making people aware of the importance of such an activity, in addition to supporting the efforts of the Hamad Medical Corporation in this regard.
Fareed Khaleel al Siddieqy, director of the Projects and Centers Department at Qatar Charity, inaugurated the programme along with Manikantan AP, president of the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) under the aegis of the Embassy of India in Qatar in the presence of Nikhil Joseph, president of Aster Volunteers, representatives of other associations, volunteers of Qatar Charity & Friends Cultural Centre (FCC), and Managing Committee members of Aster Volunteers.
Manikantan said, “I’m very happy to be part of this ceremony. Donating blood is the best thing one can do to help a person. I congratulate Qatar Charity, Aster Volunteers, representatives of all associations, and volunteers of the Friends Cultural Centre for organising this noble event.”
Talking on the initiative, Vishnu Prasad KS, General Secretary of Aster Volunteers said, “World Blood Donor Day is an international awareness day initiated by the World Health Organisation to spread the importance of blood donation. For this cause, we are very happy to associate with Qatar Charity for conducting this blood donation drive.”
