Director of Criminal Information Centre For Drug Control Cooperation Council For the Arab Gulf States Brigadier Saqr Rashid al Muraikhi and Director of the Central Asian Regional Information Coordination Center for Combating Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and their Precursors (CARICC) Pustovitov G.B on Saturday co-chaired a meeting to review ways to develop bilateral relations and cooperation to combat drugs and related issues.
The meeting also discussed strategies to curb the smuggling of Afghan opium into the Arabian Gulf region and to combat terrorism financing and money-laundering stemming from illicit drug trafficking.
In a statement after the meeting, Brigadier Muraikhi said the visit of the CARICC director to Doha comes as part of the centre’s efforts to strengthen regional and international cooperation with counterpart organisations and centres, exchange experiences and discuss the developments in drug control.
He said the two centres would exchange important information related to combating illegal drug trafficking during the visit.
Brigadier Muraikhi said the cooperation of the criminal information centre with the regional and international organisations is an important addition to opening new horizons for the exchange of expertise in combating illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
He pointed to the similarity between the two centres in the way they work through contact officers from each member state, as well as the way of exchanging information through the security channels.
For his part, Pustovitov expressed his pleasure at visiting the Criminal Information Center for Drug Control in Doha, stressing the importance of further fruitful cooperation between the two centres. He said CARICC signed several MoUs with several regional and international organisations around the world that can provide information and practical support to the Center.
CARICC, formed by Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation, in addition to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), is based in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
