Permanent Representative of Qatar to the UN HE Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif al Thani and Fekitamoeloa Katoa ‘Utoikamanu, United Nation Under Secretary-General and The United Nations High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States, on Friday discussed the arrangements related to Doha’s hosting of the UN Fifth Conference on Least Developed Countries slated for 2021 in Qatar.
During the meeting, Ambassador Alya welcomed the decision adopted by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, in which the Council expressed appreciation for the generous offer by Qatar to host the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries in 2021.
The Qatari diplomat said hosting the conference was an affirmation of Qatar’s commitment to supporting the least developed countries and to continuing its role in the international community.
In turn, ‘Utoikamanu thanked Qatar for support for the least developed countries and its offer to host the Conference.
The meeting also discussed the organisational and administrative aspects of the Fifth United Nations Conference, which is expected to witness the presence of a number of heads of states and governments and foreign ministers, in addition to a number of United Nations specialised agencies.
