Proudly waving the colours and emblem of their organisations, Filipino professionals from 13 different industries gathered for the grand opening of the Philippine Professional Organization in Qatar (PPO-Q) Sportsfest 2019 held at Al Arabi Sports Club on Friday.
The event which is aimed at promoting camaraderie among member groups of PPO-Q is likely to run until August and features various sports including basketball, volleyball and badminton.
The participants are from Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines-State of Qatar Chapter (IIEE-SQC), Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers Qatar Chapter (PICE-Qatar), Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Doha (Picpa Doha LLC G), Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers-Qatar Chapter (PSME-Qatar), United Architects of the Philippines (UAP-Qatar), Philippine Nurses Association in Qatar (PNA-Q), Institute of Electronics and Communications Engineers of the Philippines Qatar (IECEP-Q), Filipino Radiologic Technologist Association in Qatar (Filraq), Filipino Association of Respiratory Practitioners in Qatar (FIL-ARPQ), Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines Qatar-Chapter (GEPQ), Filipino Dentists Organization-Qatar (FDOQ), Association of Filipino Educators Qatar (AFE-Q) and Filipino environmental planners (ENP-Qatar).
“The theme of the sports festival is Promoting Camaraderie; Inspiring Synergy. Through this event, we hope to strengthen the fellowship of Filipino professionals in Qatar and provide an outside work venue where they can bond and relax over a sport that they love,” said PPO-Q Chairman Jehmar Tabili who is a certified public accountant.
The sportsfest kicked off with a parade of the participating teams showing off their force and high spirit going into the games as well as their best sports attire. UAP Qatar with their classy combination of blue and red jersey bagged the Best in Uniform Award. While the orange jersey of PSME Qatar and green uniform of Picpa Doha LLC (G) got the nod of the judges as first and second runner-ups, respectively.
Among the lovely ladies representing their respective teams Picpa Doha LLC (G) muse Melody Mendoza was named Best Muse while PNA-Q’s Paula Valencia and IIEE’s Lycah Pagatong bagged the First-Runner and Second Runner-up recognitions, respectively. The special awards were handed over by Philippine Labour Attache to Qatar David Des Dicang.
Following the recitation of the Oath of Sportsmanship, an exhibition basketball game was held signaling the start of the much-anticipated sports season among the Filipino professionals in Qatar.
The participating professional groups under the umbrella of PPO-Q are duly accredited by their National Offices based in Manila and have chapters in different countries. Advancing the interest of Filipino professionals in the country including spearheading review classes to prepare the professionals to sit in the Philippine Licensure Board Examination is among their objectives.
Aside from Tabili, the successful opening of PPO-Q Sportsfest 2019 was led by Rey Eusebio of Limitless Events Qatar and other leaders of PPO-Q.United Architects of the Philippines Qatar bagged the Best in Uniform Award. (Photographs: Victor “Striker” Magnipes & Abdullah Ocsio)
