Sri Lankan expatriates donate blood to support needy patients Jun 18, 2019 0 437 12345 Tribune News NetworkDohaSri Lankan Community Development Forum Qatar (CDF) recently organised a Blood Donation Day in line with the World Blood Donor Day 2019 as part of its commitment to supporting local authorities and engaging the Sri Lankan expatriates in Qatar in welfare activities for the betterment of the local community.The Blood Donation Day was organised in collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and leading Sri Lankan associations - Puttalam Association Qatar (PAQ), Polonnaruwa Welfare Association Qatar (PWAQ), Maruthamunai Majlis Qatar (MMQ) and Akkaraipattu Community Qatar (ACQ). CDF Qatar President Mr Kamil Jawad said, “As Sri Lankans living in Qatar, we see it as our responsibility to support the residents, local communities and those in need. By organising this Blood Donation Day, we intended to raise awareness and educate our community on the numerous benefits of donating blood. “We are proud to organise such an event at the heart of Doha, which highlights the many ways we all can make an important contribution to the residents through exercises like this.” Blood donation offers many benefits to both the donor and the recipients. While the recipients receives the specific blood type they need to recover from illness or injury, the donors also benefit by becoming healthier as blood donation is believed to help in lowering the risk of cardiovascular diseases as well as certain forms of cancer. Since it’s establishment in 2017, CDF Qatar as one of the leading Sri Lankan community welfare organisations operating in Qatar is dedicated to empowering the members of Sri Lankan community in Qatar. It organises a number of events such as motivation programmes for community leaders, iftar for Sri Lankan families and bachelors in Qatar, career guidance for job seekers, family and bachelor gatherings, guidance on personal and employment issues, guidance on legal matters, handling and guiding in case of funerals, collecting and distributing donation from Qatar Charity to the needy, among others.
