The Department of Agricultural Affairs of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has installed 350 cool and regular greenhouses in 85 farms.
It has also imported and installed 500,000 packing boxes in 100 farms, with each farm receiving 5,000 boxes.
About 800 Qatari farms stand to benefit from this project, the MME said.
The MME said the installation of greenhouses and distribution of equipment are part of its efforts to support farm owners, develop existing local farms and increase their production.
The MME focused on supplying cool and regular greenhouses and protected houses with hydroponics system. Besides, the MME provides seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and other supplies such as packing boxes for marketing local vegetables in different sales outlets as well as other requirements for marketing local agricultural products.
Qatar attaches great importance to the agricultural sector through which it aims to achieve food security, which is one of the most important priorities.
In this regard, Qatar is keen to support the agricultural sector in order to achieve the highest possible level of self-sufficiency.
It is noteworthy that Qatar allocated about QR70 million annually to support the agricultural sector over the next five years.
