The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) organised a workshop on ‘Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Technologies’ for local contractors. The workshop aimed at introducing them to an innovative Italian technology from Iterchimica company which combines high quality with low cost.
Italy’s Ambassador to Qatar HE Pasquale Salzano and CEO of Iterchimica, Federica Giannattasio, attended the workshop.
Iterchimica is a leader in the production of asphalts at low temperatures and the inventor of a technology unique for its efficiency and sustainability, which minimises the environmental impact of road maintenance while reducing consumption of energy and raw materials.
Iterchimica technologies make use of materials that can be reused almost endlessly without sending them to landfills. Low temperature production of asphalts decreases the energy consumption and the gases released to the atmosphere. Moreover, recycled materials such as rubbed powder bring in additional benefits in terms of noise reduction.
Addressing the audience of business operators and contractors, HE Salzano said, “The cooperation between Italy and Qatar in infrastructure is solid, and roadwork is a key ground for further business partnerships. Italian companies have developed expertise in road construction and maintenance based on reliable and innovative technologies which are consistent in quality over the years and environmentally sustainable, in line with the principles of Qatar National Vision 2030.”
“Italy has considerable experience in recycling construction materials. Italy is also a global leader in reusing materials, with secondary materials constituting 18.5 percent of total consumption,” he said.
“Leading Italian companies are carrying out major infrastructure projects related to FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. The country is keen to work closely with Qatar in order to provide the best technologies and research solutions that suit the country’s ambitious goals,” the ambassador added. (TNN)
