The Friends Cultural Center (FCC), one of the Qatar Charity Centers for Community Development, held an iftar event for the Indonesian community living in Qatar, in cooperation with the Indonesian Embassy.
The iftar, in which 600 community members took part, came as part of the activities of Qatar Charity’s ‘Baraha’, a special Ramadan programme for expatriate communities living in Qatar. Some 350 men, 200 women and 50 children attended the event, which had several activities for adults and children, including awareness lectures, religious competitions, drawing and colouring contest and a general knowledge competition.
The Indonesian expatriate community members participating in the iftar considered it an opportunity to interact with each other, strengthen the brotherly ties between the members of the community, share views and opinions, exchange ideas and information, and promote human values and the values of cooperation and solidarity among the community. In a statement, Prihandoko, in charge of the Indonesian community, appreciated the cooperation with Qatar Charity’s FCC in organising the iftar table for his community members, noting that he receives continuous support from the center in organising events for the Indonesian community. He also thanked Qatar Charity and the Indonesian Embassy for their cooperation in organizing the iftar.
Zain Al-Arefin, a translator, expressed his pleasure at participating in the iftar, pointing out that he has been taking part in this event for five years now. He also thanked Qatar Charity for organising the iftar event, hoping cooperation would continue between the Indonesian community and Qatar Charity in the future.
Mohammed Hafez, a mu’adh-dhin (the person who calls to prayer), thanked Qatar Charity for organising such a wonderful programme that brought together the Indonesian community members and break fast in one place.
Iftar helps make the participants aware of Islamic principles and values, urges them to do charity, and provides an opportunity to get to know each other, Hafez added, pointing out that he has been attending this event for some 10 years.
