Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar) has launched the 2019 edition of its summer art and design programme for children and high school students. The classes will start on June 29 and run until early August.
The classes are open to children from ages four to 16 and will range from fashion design, interior design, app design, video game design and t-shirt design, to painting, printmaking, collage making and fashion illustration among others.
For example, in the “Art Explorers - Under the Sea” class, which is open to children aged four to six years old, children will print, paint, sculpt and experiment with mixing medias to create their own interpretations of undersea life and watery worlds.
On the Robot Art Explorer course, children aged six to eight will develop their creativity and art skills by experimenting with a variety of media to create two-and-three-dimensional robot artworks.
In the Fashion Illustration class for ages 10-14, students will work with a variety of media and techniques to create fashion illustrations with different fashion fabrics. They will also be introduced to diverse fashion drawings and fashion illustrators.
In the class titled, “Coding and Video Game Design” participants from ages five to eight will step into the world of computer programming and learn how to code and create video games, animations, stories and interactive programs. They will acquire the fundamentals of programming including loops, conditional statements, and event broadcasting.
The “Design Thinking” class for ages 16+ will consist of creating a personal mood board to represent each one of the participants. The participants will get to create a digital and physical board using simple techniques of collecting inspiration and Adobe programs like Illustrator and Photoshop, which will be simply taught during the course of the programme.
