The Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF), which functions under the patronage of the Embassy of India in Qatar, conducted the 6th Hajikka Memorial English Essay Writing Contest at the Doha Modern Indian School recently in memory of late M V Abdul Khader Haji, popularly known as ‘Hajikka’.
Students from Bhavans Public School, Delhi Public School-MIS, Doha Modern Indian School, MES Indian School, Shantiniketan Indian School, Ideal Indian School, Birla Public School, Noble International School, Pearl School and Olive International School participated in the competition in Junior and Senior categories.
Certificates were distributed to the winners and participants at a ceremony held at the Indian Cultural Centre. SRH Fahmi, first secretary at the Embassy of India and coordinating officer of ICBF, was the chief guest at the event. PS Narayanan, principal of Doha Modern Indian School, and Hassan Chougule, former ICBF president and president of DPS-MIS, were the guests of honour. P N Baburajan, president of ICBF, presided over the function. ICBF Vice-President Mahesh Gowda welcomed the gathering.
Nilangshu Dey, president Indian Sports Center and former president of ICBF, and C V Rappai, Norka Roots director and director & group CEO of Jumbo Electronics, spoke on the occasion.
Sara Kamlesh Somaiya (DPS–MIS), Blessy Boby (Noble International School) and Aaisha A Khan (Olive International School) won the first three prizes, respectively, in the Junior category of the competition.
In Senior category, Valencia John (MES Indian School), Hridya Raju (MES Indian School) and Amrita Madhu Nair (Ideal Indian School) won the first three prizes, respectively.
ICBF presented a token of appreciation to Doha Modern Indian School , which was handed over to Principal PS Narayanan, and a special appreciation to the Assistant Principal of the school V Suraj for his support to the successful conducting of the competition.
Member of ICBF Managing Committee Rajani Murthy proposed the vote of thanks. The proceedings were conducted by Joint Secretary Santosh Kumar Pillai and led by ICBF Managing Committee members Avinash Gaikwad, Subramanya Hebbaglu, Nivedita Dutta, Juttas Paul, Ziad Usman and Senthil Agastheeswaran.
The event ended with an Iftar for all the attendees.
Hajikka was a social activist, who left the community with a legacy of 40 years of humanitarian service and benevolence. He was always at the forefront to render a helping hand to the needy and deserving sections in the community, irrespective of their religion, nationality and language.
