Moscow–Doha Rally participants receive warm welcome in Qatar May 12, 2019 0 1042 12345 Tribune News NetworkDohaThe ‘Moscow–Doha’ motor rally team arrived in Qatar amid much fanfare. Dubbed as the rally’s debut on the international platform, the 20-day journey to Doha started from Russia on April 18. The team comprised 11 participants, including Qatari student Ahmed Yussef al Hail who is continuing his studies at MGIMO in Russia. The Ambassador of Qatar to Russia HE Fahad bin Mohamed al Attiya along with Hassan al Ibrahim, Assistant Secretary General Qatar Tourism Council, and other dignitaries welcomed the rallyists in Doha. A reception was held in their honour to celebrate the success of Moscow-Doha Rally in the world of rallying and introduce it to the motor sports aficionados in town in the presence of VIP and media representatives. On the occasion, HE Fahad bin Mohamed al Attiya said, “I am delighted to welcome the participants of the Moscow-Doha Rally in Qatar. With the successful run of the maiden rally, we take pride in announcing that it will now be an annual event, which will leave its imprint on the global rally map.” Hassan al Ibrahim said, “First of all, I would like to welcome the participants in the rally, the first rally of its kind, which intends to support sports tourism – one of the four main pillars identified by the National Tourism Sector Strategy 2017-2023. This initiative aims to achieve the objectives of growth and development in the sports tourism sector. We have been able to strengthen the status of the State of Qatar during the past years as a preferred sports tourism destination desired by all athletes and sports people from different sports fields and sectors. Through such impactful initiatives, the National Tourism Council works to promote and increase its diversity, highlighting Qatar’s unparalleled capabilities, facilities and offerings in the region. Today, with this rally, we are cultivating one of the most fruitful results of those efforts.”Alexander Korobko, who was leading the ‘Russian Hour’ film crew who were documenting the first episode of the rally, said, “I would like to thank the State of Qatar for the warm welcome we received in Doha, as well as to the Embassy of Qatar in Russia and Qatar National Tourism Council for their endless support and contribution to the successful launch of the ‘Moscow Doha’ Rally, and announcing it an annual affair to attract more youth towards sports.” The ‘Moscow-Doha’ Rally participants were divided on 3 ‘Patriot’ UAZ, the renowned Russian vehicle known for its high capabilities on all type of tracks and off-road. After departing Moscow, the team travelled in their prepared UAZs for 20 days, with stops in major cities – Kursk, Volgograd, Elista, Makhachkala, Derbent, Baku, Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz, etc. The team then took the water path from Bushehr to Al Ruweis in the northern part of Qatar to reach Doha at the end of the trip.
