Dr Mohammed highlighted the importance of the forum as well as other forums in improving health services during his talk on the overview of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Health Strategy 2018-2022 which includes the Patient Consultative Council.
Dr Laila al Dahnaim, school health manager, delivered a presentation on PHCC school health programme, describing the objectives, services, scope and the schools covered under the programme, including education and treatment.
She introduced the projects of the programme such as the e-health file project, the asthma-friendly schools program, the growth chart project and sight test programme. She also addressed the challenges and achievements of the school health programme and highlighted the implementation of the healthy meal initiative at the school canteen, as well as the initiatives to cultivate farms attached to the school grounds to plant some fruits and vegetables in order to boost healthy food.
Dr Dahnaim noted that a partnership will be established between the Primary Health Care Corporation and Aspetar to implement a structured approach for physical education classes.
Dr Dalia Hassan, Family Medicine consultant at Labaib Health Center, clarified the key role a family physician plays in the primary healthcare system and its importance which lies in reviewing the condition and following up the treatment, as the family physician has a prior knowledge of the family medical history and accordingly refers patients to HMC specialists.
She said family medicine is implemented in most health centres.
According to her, the most important features of family medicine services are appointment bookings and patient distribution to physicians into groups consisting of two male and female physicians in order to collect comprehensive data for all family members to save the time and effort in knowing the patient’s medical history.
Dr Mona al Hail, director of Omar Bin Kattab Health Center, referred to the services provided in the centre, which includes home health care, pharmacy, health cards, school health, radiology, medical education room for the patients, medical commission for Qataris, maternal and child health consultations, ultrasound, laboratory, social workers and registered patients.
Ruba al Qadi, Quality Improvement coordinator at PHCC, said the new concept of patient-centred care involves engaging the patient in making decisions at the health centre as part of the teamwork, and taking the patient’s opinion about the new services in order to improve their quality in future.
She stated that committees will be formed and composed of the health centre’s patients for the purpose of communicating their views and suggestions to the concerned department in the corporation. A discussion was opened by patients with a number of questions, including: What is the benefit of the family physician? Is heshe a specialist or a general practitioner?
Dr Dalia said the family physician is a general practitioner acting as the link between the centre’s patients and the external health services provided by Hamad Medical Corporation, where he is authorised to refer cases to Hamad General Hospital.
