Qatar’s Rashid Hamad Saleh could not carry on his sparkling qualification form and finished fifth in the Men’s Skeet at the World Cup Shotgun in Al Ain, the United Arab Emirates on Monday.
The former Asian champion and fifth in the 2014 Granda World Championship, Saleh shot 26 out of 30 to make a shocking early exit in the finals.
Earlier, he shot 124 out of 125 and came within a one target of equaling the qualification world record. He was also involved in a thrilling shootoff to decide the second best qualifier. However that honour went to Norwegian Erik Watndal, who struck 12 to 11 by Saleh.
Qatar’s Masoud Hamad collected 117 to get the 63rd spot among 125 shooters.
Kuwaiti Mansour al Rashedi, who qualified in the fourth spot with 123, shot 56 targets to win the gold medal, his career’s first.
Denmark’s Jesper Hansen hit 122 targets in qualification to proceed to the final after a four man shoot-off for one place. In the final, he hit 54 targets to win the silver medal. Both Rashedi and Hansen also qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games as well.
Luke Peter Argiro from Australia shot a perfect 125 out of 125 targets and equalled the Qualification World Record. In the final, he could manage only 42 targets and secured the bronze medal.
