A two-day international conference on combatting impunity and strengthening accountability and rule of law will begin in Doha on Sunday.
To be held under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani, the conference will be hosted by the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) in partnership with the European Parliament, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the World Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions.
It will feature five keynote speeches by NHRC Chairman Dr Ali bin Smaikh al Marri, European Parliament Human Rights Committee Chairman Antonio Benziri, UN High Commissioner Carlos Alfonso, President of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions Negret Muskera and President of Syria serious crimes probing group Catherine Marchi-Ohel.
In addition to 250 international organisations, more than 50 leading media outlets from around the world, including 20 leading opinion writers, will testify to the importance of the issue of “preventing impunity” as one of the issues that occupy world public opinion.
The International Conference on Combating Impunity is expected to produce important recommendations that will mark a leap in the development and effectiveness of these mechanisms, especially in light of the field experiences of the participating organisations and their impact on international public opinion.
