SPEAKER of Pakistani Parliament Asad Qaiser said that Qatar is playing vital role in maintaining peace and resolving international disputes around the world.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune on the sidelines of the ongoing 140th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union General Assembly in Doha, Qaiser said that Qatar is a great friend of Pakistan and that the two countries share brotherly relations rooted in history.
“Qatar’s government is very progressive and their contributions to international relations are really impressive and appreciated across the world. Qatar is playing vital role in settling disputes. For example, Qatar’s efforts to find a just solution to the Palestinian crisis, or its initiative to bring Taliban and other groups to the negotiating table in Doha in order to help Afghani people are commendable”, the Pakistani delegate added.
Qaiser said that Pakistan also has great commercial relations with Qatar, adding that Pakistan is keen on strengthening cooperation with Qatar in trade as Qatar’s market is very promising.
“Our vegetables and fruits are exported to Qatar in addition to other food items, and we seek to boost the trade volume with Qatar”, he remarked.
On the political front, Qaiser pointed out that Pakistan is seeking to establish parliament to parliament relations with Qatar’s Shura Council. “We would also like to have people to people relations with Qatar especially that we have a large Pakistani community here”, he explained.
Furthermore, he said that Qatar has always supported Pakistan, which his country appreciated.
Commenting on the ongoing crisis in the GCC and the blockade against Qatar, Qaiser said:“We are saddened by the continuation of the GCC crisis and the division between the brotherly countries. Pakistan supports Kuwait’s mediation efforts for a peaceful resolution to the crisis.”
